Nardstar* was invited to the 6th Annual Festival Concreto in Fortaleza, Brazil. She spent the beginning 2 weeks of November painting a mural titled ‘Like-minded’.
The mural is of 2 women – one from Africa (left) and another from Brazil (right). The overflow of black hair encourages women to celebrate themselves and their natural beauty.
The featured flowers represented in the mural are of the indigenous South African Protea, and a Brazilian orchid called Ipê. This serves as a connection between Brazil and Africa, because Brazilians, too, have an African heritage. The mural aims to depict that as people we are more similar than we are different.
