Afrikaans: The Origin – Photo Print
Price range: R1,200.00 through R2,500.00
Photographic print
Afrikaans: The Origin is a tribute to the multicultural roots of the Afrikaans language, tracing its 350-year history beyond its official recognition. The piece celebrates how indigenous people, European colonisers and traders, and enslaved people from Asia and Africa all shaped this unique language.
Hands reaching through time symbolise the human connections behind Afrikaans, and honour the fact that its first written record was in Arabic script.
Mural art by Nardstar*, concept and research by Wisaal Abrahams, calligraphy by Fareed Rhoda Jackson.
